MY FAVORITE DIGITAL TOOLS

I have found a few Digital Tools, which I have used frequently to assist with the integration of technology in the classroom.  The feedback received from students indicate that being able to manipulate technology increases their interest of the topic and they are more motivated to participate in class and be engaged in the lesson.

Nearpod can be used as an assessment tool and the activities cover all aspects of Blooms Digital Taxonomy.

Quizizz has available prepopulated exercises or you are free to create your own resources.  There is also the option to upgrade to Super for additional resources.

Starfall is a digital tool that assists students of the Primary School age with reading skills, whether at home or in the classroom with the teacher.

  1. One tool mentioned here which I have used is Starfall. As a class four remedial teacher, I have facilitated my students in their reading development to ensure academic improvement through the use of this tool. In addition to this tool, I have used Sight Word Jeopardy to assist students in familiarization of basic sight words. Students have stated that they have really enjoyed the lessons which incorporated these tools. They have made learning meaningful, engaging and fun at the same time. It is my belief that such tools cater to the auditory and visual learners. Through the use of creating manipulatives of these tools, the kinesthetic learner can also benefit.

    1. One of my favourite tools is also Starfall, it is very engaging with the young students as well as for remedial use with older student. I have enjoyed using Nearpod as well where I can create my worksheets from the beginning and view my students online as they work in the different pages. I like that I can edit videos to use before had rather than starting and stopping during a lesson. Nearpod has many qualities that I have been able to employ to make my classes more enjoyable for the younger students.

  3. I find that students really enjoy competing against each other when using Quizizz and other similar tools. As the teacher I liked it because students were actively engaged in the assignment and also the fact that students can get feedback on the items they got incorrect.
